Chevening HSBC Scholarship

The HSBC Chevening Scholarship offers three full scholarships for Indian citizens towards one-year Master Courses at any accredited UK University. 3 scholarships for post graduate Masters Programme in any university in the UK in subjects relating to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office’s Foreign Policy Priority of ‘Building prosperity by increasing exports and investment, opening markets, ensuring access to resources, and promoting sustainable global growth’.

Subjects: Finance, Economics & Environmental Studies.

Each scholarship covers the following:
  • Full Programme fees
  • Accommodation and living expenses for the duration of the scholarship for a maximum period of 12 months
  • Return airfare
  • Student Visa (for study visit)


Eligibility Criteria for HSBC Chevening Scholarship
  • At least five years of work-experience would be an advantage

  • Able to demonstrate leadership in their chosen field or profession (to be assessed from the personal statement provided with the application form and the references
  • With an inner drive to make a difference and looking to form networks & strengthen their opportunities during the scholarship and on their return

  • Recent graduates may apply but must be able to demonstrate exceptional and outstanding leadership experience through either academic or extracurricular activities

  • Outstanding academic ability with a good first degree (a minimum of upper second class) or equivalent from a recognized Indian university

For:

Young enterprising Goan students who wish to study in UK.The British Council offers the Goa Education Trust (GET) scholarship.GET will provide scholarships and/ or research fellowships to eligible students for their postgraduate studies in UK in all streams,fields and departments.The scholarships cover full or part tuition fees.All other costs are to be borne by the students.


Who can apply

Applicant should be a Goan/ Indian citizen with a valid Indian passport, residing in India at the time of applying for the scholarship; not more than 30 years at the time of applying for the scholarship; be a graduate and have excellent academic track record and extra-curricular achievement.

ELIGIBILITY
The applicant should:
  • Be an Indian citizen with a valid Indian passport and residing in India at the time of applying for the scholarship
  • Be resident in Goa or born of Goan parents
  • Be not more than 30 years old at the time of applying for the scholarship
  • Be a graduate and have excellent academic track record and extra curricular achievement

CATEGORIES OF SCHOLARSHIPS

The scholarships are available to the following categories of persons:
A) Indian Nationals for Ph.D. study in India; and
B) Nationals of other Asian countries for Ph.D. study in India.

AREAS OF SPECIALIZATION/SUBJECT

A candidate may apply for scholarship in any one of the following areas of specialization:
1. Science and Technology as an integral component of economic and social activity, including the Philosophy of Science
2.Comparative Studies in Religion and Culture
3.International Relations and Constitutional Studies
4.Indian History, Civilization and Culture
5.Interface of Social Change and Economic Development
6.Environmental Ecology and Sustainable Development
7.Studies in the life and works of Jawaharlal Nehru

ELIGIBILITY CONDITIONS

At the time of making the application for scholarship, a candidate should
1. Hold a FIRST Class Postgraduate degree
2. Already be registered/admitted for Ph.D. degree with a University/Institution in India approved by the Government in a subject in one of the areas of specialization listed above. Those who have applied for registration and have not yet been registered, are not eligible to apply.
3. Not be above 35 years of age at the time of applying.
4. Be a full-time Ph.D. Scholar.

DURATION OF SCHOLARSHIP

Ordinarily up to 2 years.

VALUE OF SCHOLARSHIP FOR BOTH THE CATEGORIES

a) Maintenance allowance including Tuition fee - Rs.9,000 per month
b) Annual contingent expenses for study tours within India, books, stationery, thesis costs, etc. - Rs. 12,000 per annum
c) Sleeper Class Train fare from the place of residence or study in India for interview with the Selection Board.

UNDERTAKING
The selected candidate will be required to give an Undertaking (available in application form) to observe the terms and conditions "of the scholarship.

LAST DATE
Completed application form together with all the necessary enclosures should reach Administrative Secretary, Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Fund, Teen Murti House, New Delhi-110 011 on or before 31 May. The candidates are advised to send their applications as soon as possible. The Fund will not be responsible for any postal delays in reaching the application by the due date.

The Selection Committee's decision to call a candidate for interview or select a candidate for scholarship will be final and no representation in this regard will be entertained.

ENCLOSURES
The candidates should ensure that the following documents are securely attached seriatim to the Application Form before dispatch:
1) A passport size photograph to be pasted on the form.
2) An attested copy of Ph.D. registration/admission letter from the College/University.
3) A synopsis of not more than 1500 words or about 3 pages of 1.5 spaced text.
4) University Doctoral Monitoring Committee's report or Ph.D. Supervisor's report as per details required in C-8 of the Application Form.
5) Attested copies of Postgraduate degree, mark sheet and all other educational certificates/ degrees showing marks obtained and the date of birth.

Women Scientists Fellowship Scheme (WOS-B) – 2011


Women Scientists Fellowship Scheme (WOS-B) – 2011 of Department of Science & Technology, (SEED), New Delhi Coordinated by MACS - Agharkar Research Institute, Pune

The Fellowship Scheme for Women Scientists for societal programmes is initiative of the Department of Science & Technology. This scheme is addressed to women scientists and technologists who have “break in their careers” due to social responsibilities but have desire to return to mainstream science and work as bench-level scientists. Women scientists desiring to apply for this scheme are required to develop their own research project/ proposals demonstrating science and technological applications for societal benefits.

Objectives
a. Provide an opportunity for women scientists to re-enter into active research after a break in career, through support for S&T based R&D projects addressing the needs of people in unorganized urban or rural areas and

b. Provide an opportunity for S&T capacity building of women on issues relevant in societal programmes.

Project Proposals For
a. Research, development and adaptation of technology to improve the quality of life and provide additional opportunities for income generation in rural areas or urban slums.

b. Adaptation & transfer of an innovative technology developed at laboratory level to field.

c. Capacity building of applicant in technology areas relevant to the needs in rural areas.

Nature of Support
Support will include a scholarship grant as per the current norms of WOS-B for a period of two years. Grant for minor equipment, consumables, contingencies, travel and overheads will also be considered if found necessary under the work plan.

Who Can Apply -
Women scientist
1. Who are Indian nationals living in India,
2. Who have break in career after the last degree received for at least three years, who are currently not employed in permanent position,
3. Whose age is below 60 years at the time of applying
4. Who possess one of the following qualifications?
5. Ph.D. or masters degree in science OR
6. Bachelors/ master’s degree in engineering / technology, architecture, medicine / pharmacy / Veterinary

Other Requirements
a. The project proposal must show an active association with a field agency in regard to implementation of the project irrespective of the fact whether the candidate is attached to an educational institution or R&D institution or any other agency. A letter to that effect from field agency is required.

b. A certificate from the host institution, for extending infrastructural or administrative support for the project must be enclosed with the application. Similarly, a certificate from the identified field agency showing the agreement to get associated with the project is also required.

c. If the proposal includes pre-clinical study on animals or clinical trials on humans, necessary ethical clearance following ICMR/ CPCSEA guidelines must be sought.


Who Are Not Eligible
a. Candidate already having a permanent job or fellowship will not be considered.
b. Candidates who are already registered for Ph.D are not eligible as this is not a Ph.D fellowship.

Duration of Fellowship:
The scholarship will be given initially for duration of two years. The period may be extended to the third year in exceptional cases, if recommended by Experts during periodic reviews.

Selection Mechanism:
A Committee of Experts will be involved in the selection process. The two-tier selection process will be adopted involving initial screening and subsequent individual presentation by the screened-in candidates before a group of Experts. The selected candidates will be informed by post. The list of selected candidates will be displayed on the website.

MODU TIMBLO SCHOLARSHIP 2011


MODU TIMBLO SCHOLARSHIP
For 2011 entry, there is one Modu Timblo Scholarship available for an Indian student wishing to pursue a master’s degree at LSE. The donor wishes to help a student of outstanding academic potential, who comes from an economically disadvantaged background, and who would have difficulty attending LSE without funding.

ELIGIBILITY
In order to be eligible for this scholarship you need to apply for a full time masters programme in Economics, Finance or Management related programmes. You must have an offer of admission by the closing date for the scholarship.
You need to be a national of India currently living in India. The successful candidate should have a relative born in Goa before 1961. Evidence of this will be requested.

HOW TO APPLY
To be considered for this scholarship, you must have completed the 2011/12 LSE Graduate Financial Support Application form and received an offer of admission (conditional or unconditional) by 27 April 2011. You must complete Section G - Personal Statement.
When you submit an application for admission to a taught masters programme, the Graduate Admissions Office will acknowledge your application and provide information about how to set up an LSE For You online account. This account will allow you to track the progress of your application for admission, and will provide you with access to the LSE Graduate Financial Support Application Form. The LSE Graduate Financial Support Application form will be available until 27 April 2011.
Selection for this scholarship will take place between May and July 2011 and we will notify the successful recipient(s) by the end of July 2011. If you have not heard from the Financial Support Office by the end of July 2011, you must assume your application has been unsuccessful.
